What does your study nook look like? Is it filled with trendy best sellers by the latest authors? Or are you an old “stick-in-the-mud” like me?
As you can see, mine is filled with resources published from the 1700’s right up till now. Yet, these are only tools.
Our pastor recently asked us to read ahead and study a particular scripture for the next series. As I did, I was reminded of a truth that is so easy to forget. God has given us many gifted, intellectual, perceptive and intuitive people. Their works can be a great help to our studies. But when all is said and done, the truth is very evident; God has given us but one textbook, His Word. It is simple enough for a child, yet deep enough to challenge the greatest theologians.
So, is it the main source in your study nook? I have to constantly remind myself how important it is to lay the works of man down beside it to see how they stack up. If I don’t, I find myself constantly blown about by opinions and conjecture.
How about you?

I think its hilarious that you have what appears to be a sticky on your computer screen. All that technology at your fingertips to do the same thing faster, better, and fresher…yet you used a sticky. A tried and true form of reminding oneself of what is important. Kinda like wagon loads of books describing what describes itself best – the bible.
Or… maybe its just a cool screen saver that got caught in the picture as it was displaying a rolling cube.
I have a love for books so I also read and have books that date back centuries in their writings. The best one is still the bible but I do like to explore other people’s thoughts on the subject. Kinda like blogging but the person keeps speaking well after their death.

Lol. That is a screen saver caught in flight, but I’m not beyond putting a sticky on there. I’m still kind of old school. Pete Wilson has been training me to be trendy, though.
I’ve always credited my second grade teacher with instilling in me a love of books. She was a saint. She was also a great bible teacher. They could still do that in public schools, back in the day.
Thanks for the reply, Tony. I always like your insights on Pete’s blog.
