Through The Haze

I’m pretty sure God caused my CD player to quit.  Now that I think about it, I’m almost certain He did.  Allow me to explain.

Early Sunday morning I jumped in my old pickup truck and headed out to visit with my dad for a few minutes.  My CD collection is quite a mix.  That’s what you get when you’ve listened to the music from six decades.  This particular morning, I had in Jim Croce’s greatest hits.  I was already tuning up to sing along with Roller Derby Queen, but nothing issued forth from my antique CD/radio, nothing but silence.  I tried all the usual tactics of off/on, switching selections and so forth……..nothing.  Finally, I ejected the disc.  On the radio Chris Tomlin was singing How Great is Our God.   And then………..I remembered.  I remembered how I had recently made a commitment to be consistent in my daily worship.  At that moment, the sun began to burn through the early morning haze revealing a treasure trove of colors on the surrounding autumn hills.

It’s that way in our lives, isn’t it?  Only as we allow the Son to burn through the distractions and complacency within us, will we see what is really important.

Now, I was thinking of getting a new CD player, one of those fancy ones.  But, I think I’ll keep the old one.  It suddenly has sentimental value.
